Patton-Fuller Community Hospital Essay
Team C has identified that the Human Resources Department of Patton-Fuller Community Hospital has primary system deficiencies with the information security and lack of information. The records are currently open to all system users, exposing personal information to the Internet through the public website. The requirements for updating the Human Resources operating system have been identified using a specification checklist for updating software for the department including payroll and accounting. Team C has gathered the business requirements to understand the needs of the Human Resources department. The department currently operates on an Apple iMac with 2 gigahertz, 350-megabyte hard drive wireless with Mac OS X including Leopard and Windows XP. All patient files are encrypted for storage using AES. Advanced Encryption Standard is highly secure using 256-bit AES encryption for sensitive data. The Human Resource department also needs to have their sensitive data secure. The Human Resources department performs many functions including all of the accounting for the hospital. The hospital accounting and finance needs to operate using a secure and sophisticated software system. Updating the software to be able to perform accounting records is crucial to determine the financial soundness of Patton-Fuller Community Hospital. Patient accounts and billing must be secure and the software to be modified and updated should be too easy to learn and work with. Further research needs to be conducted if off-the-shelf software should be purchased or if the software should be modified or developed specifically for the department. Marketing communication is relatively designed to sell the value and benefits of the project to the stakeholders, which includes the healthcare providers, insurance companies, and pharmacies that are willing to invest in an organization working towards an accessible, affordable healthcare system such as the one that will be provided by Fuller-Patton Community Hospital. Team C has chosen to use branding as the source of marketing communication since it is indeed known to be the most sophisticated. The primary purpose of branding is to establish an identity that conjures up a positive image (Mochal, 2007). Our purpose in implementing this new software system is to assure the stockholders with this positive image, reflection and emotionà when a person hears of the new product. In order for Team C to make sure that the positive image is captured we will need to ask one another some important questions such as:Will this new system require a change in the way people perform their jobs and will this project make the business workers nervous as a result of efficiencies that will ultimately require less people to do the same function? As long as Team C holds a steady stream of positive communication amongst one another during the implementation of this project for the Human Resource Department then the project will be successful and should help overcome any negative perceptions one may have about the project. As a marketing research strategy Team C should implement a survey or questioner on how consumers in the local and surrounding areas gather information regarding hospitals and healthcare, as well as to what type of documentation the consumers are getting the information from such as the Internet, family, newspapers, friends, television, radio and possible hospital pamphlets or flyers. Once the information from the survey or questionnaire is gathered it should supply us with the insight of just how much the consumerââ¬â¢s friends and families have on the organization and patient satisfaction. This will guide Team C into the direction that they need in order to come up with the best image to fit the needs of Patton-Fuller Community Hospital. Team C can also set their marketing research plans toward is employee satisfaction and increase administrative efficiency by implementing Magic Service Desk for the Human Resources department. Magic Service Desk has the ability to track all employee requests while providing him or her with instant answers to policies and procedure questions. This will be an instant way that Team C can improve Patton-Fullerââ¬â¢s organizational efficiency by automating the Human Resources processes and empowering all employees to help them with access to the knowledge base and retrieve the available FAQââ¬â¢s that they so desperately need. Internal Alignment Essay
Executive Summary We recommend a single internal structure that includes all job families, and uses the same job point evaluation plan to evaluate all positions. The single structure will allow us to evaluate employees on an equal level and it will be easier for the employees to follow. The job point evaluation consists of a grand total one thousand points with 25% weighted towards Education, 20% weighted towards Experience, Technical, and Creativity/Innovativeness, and lastly 15% weighted towards Skills & Abilities. Internal Strategy The recommended internal alignment for FastCat would be to have a single structure based on compensable factors relevant to their success. Each factor has different levels based on the requirements needed for the factor. For example, there are only three levels for creativity, while there are five levels for experience (Refer to Exhibit 1 in the Job Manual). This allows FastCat to cover the entire company with the factors chosen, yet still be specific enough for the individual jobs. This design will help FastCat direct employee goals towards company goals, and still be fair to the employees. It also will help FastCat be more cost-effective, in that the jobs will be thoroughly evaluated based on the levels they receive for each factor. There are five factors chosen to be the most important for FastCat they are: Education, Experience, Technical, Creative/Innovative, and Skills & Abilities. The first factor, Education, was chosen because of FastCatââ¬â¢s need for highly educated peop le. The software that FastCat designs calls for specific knowledge that a degree can provide. Experience was chosen because of its importance to FastCat. Almost every job at FastCat requires at least some experience in that certain area; therefore experience was deemed extremely important for FastCat. Technical ability refers to the amount of impact an error would make for FastCat. For example, an Administrative Assistant miss-spelling something will not have a huge impact on FastCatââ¬â¢s business, however, a Technical Marketing Consultant going after the wrong segment will have a profound impact on FastCat. The Creative/Innovative factor for FastCat is also extremely important. The mission statement for FastCat even states that ââ¬Å"We must produce innovative, high-quality solutions.â⬠Last, Skills & Abilities was chosen because of theà range that the factor could cover, as well as the fact that we can select the most important items relative to FastCat. This internal alignment will allow FastCat to strictly define some factors, while leaving other factors more loosely defined, in order to support employee development. This system will also be extremely simple for employees to follow, and to see the way that the system has been set up, in order to ensure fairness. The structure will also be similarly easy to administer, as well as to communicate to employees. It will be easy to administer because the jobs are already evaluated, and will not change anytime in the near future. Another reason why it will not be difficult to administer is because employees will be able to see the differences in pay, and why they are the way they are. The recommended way of communicating this plan to employees is by giving each employee a copy, and then holding several small meetings in which employees can ask questions about the new structure. Rationale for Recommendations The recommendations we proposed for FastCat will benefit the company for its future success, and will help the company regain its competitive edge, while also achieving its compensation objectives. The first recommendation is for FastCat to use a single internal structure. Since the company is currently undergoing some restructuring, this system will be easy to help reorganize those departments, and it provides for a much less bureaucratic working environment. Also, a single internal structure will allow for better management because rather than having the managerââ¬â¢s focus on trying to organize and understand two or more structures; they can simply focus on one. Second, we recommend that FastCat use a job point evaluation system. By using this point system the company can clearly state what they feel are important skills, and can place a numeric value to them. This way the most qualified employees are easily identified, and the employees can be correctly compensated for their w ork. This system will also help direct employees towards FastCatââ¬â¢s objectives. Lastly, we recommend that Fast Cat include five compensable factors that will help the company get back in all consumersââ¬â¢ evoked set. The five compensable factors we recommend would be Education, Experience, Technical (error), Creative/Innovative, and Skills & Abilities. To help Fast Cat in its future success they are going to need highly educated people who have the experience in the market, but makeà little technical errors in doing their job. Also, they will need people who are creative/innovative to help create new products, but these people must also posses the skills and abilities necessary to complete their job. This system will also help direct employees towards FastCatââ¬â¢s objectives. By placing emphasis on creativity and technical ability, FastCat can direct employee behavior towards their objectives. Overall, these recommendations will help Fast Cat achieve their compensation objectives, because the single internal structure is easy to understand and organize , the job point evaluation and compensable factors will help to select the correct amount of compensation for each job. However, while there are many benefits to these recommendations there are some risks associated with them. Listed below you will find some of the risks, and potential solutions for the risks, associated with the proposal for FastCat. Risk 1: Since it is recommend that FastCat use a single internal structure some employees may feel they will not be recognized for achieving certain goals. Potential Solution 1: FastCat can have some other ways of recognizing employeeââ¬â¢s when they achieve goals. For example, FastCat having Employee of the Month, Profit Sharing, Gain Sharing, or just recognition for employees by management or the President of FastCat. Risk 2: Managers and/or employees may feel that it is not fair to place them on the same level as non-managerial or managerial employee. Potential Solution 2: Explain to employees how the point system works, and why they are on the same level. Especially emphasize the Skills & Abilities Level 2 and above Ranks, where managerial skills are listed. This will show the employees that FastCat is paying more for managers. However, there may be another factor that places the employee and manager within the same point range. Risk 3: If an employee ranks high on the job point evaluation then he/she may feel as if they are indispensable. This could cause them to not be focused or to slack off on their responsibilities. Potential Solution 3: FastCat could occasionally remind employees that their compensation is based on the fact that they are doing their job. If an employee believes he/she is indispensable, and therefore either slacks off or becomes not focused; then maybe FastCat should remind them of employment at will. Risk 4: Since FastCat does value creativity and innovation, employees who are in positions where creativity and innovation are not needed could feel that any ideas they do have would notà be very important. Potential Solution 4: FastCat could have a suggestion box, or encourage all employees that have an idea to tell their superior. FastCat would need to tell employees something to the effect of: there are no bad ideas, just ones that are not yet developed. This would encourage employees to voice any ideas they have, and feel like their ideas are valued. Overall, our recommendations provide more benefits than risks to the company, benefits such as: helping FastCat to be successful in the future, helping the company regain its competitive edge, while also achieving its compensation objectives. However, as with all things, there are some risks, but as long as FastCat is aware of those risks and handles them promptly they should have no problem succeeding using our recommendations.

A Story About Courage Essay Example for Free
A Story About Courage Essay ? Waking up in the morning to birds chirping and the warm summer breeze is almost impossible when you live in the heart of New York City, well it is for me at least. My name is Sandy Collins, Iââ¬â¢m your typical teenage girl. I like going out with my friends, having slumber parties, and going shopping. I moved from Texas to New York City a month and a half ago. The moment I stepped out of the car I instantly loved the change. It wasnââ¬â¢t that I didnââ¬â¢t enjoy living in Texas, but now living in New York felt like it made much more sense. As a child I did everything with my dad. Biking, fishing, rollerblading, you name it. I, Sandy Collins has done it. My dad always said he wanted a better life for me then what he had, he sure meant it. Back when I was almost eleven years old my parents got a divorce, great birthday present, huh? At first when Iââ¬â¢d walk into the room where my parents would be arguing, theyââ¬â¢d pretend they were only talking loud of some sort. But as the months went by, they didnââ¬â¢t even noticed when Iââ¬â¢d enter the room. Soon after that my mom filed for a divorce, leaving me in the middle. It was hard to cope with it to begin with, but soon after that I realized I had no part in what happened. Now four years later here I am making the decision to move in with my dad. When I first mentioned moving to New York to my mom, her reaction was absolutely no. After mentioning it a few more times, giving her a month or two, she finally realized that I should be able to make my own decisions because in the end itââ¬â¢d make me happier. Now five months after, BAM! New York City here I come. The twelve hour drive was definitely the worst road trip, bonding time, or whatever my mom would wish to call it. She came up with a clever idea to shove me, my seven year old brother Ricky, my stepfather Joe, and herself in our beat up Toyota Tercel and take on the task to drive us all the way to New York for the last bonding time sheââ¬â¢ll have with me in a long time. Not to mention weââ¬â¢re in the month of July. ââ¬Å"Sweetie would you like something to eat? â⬠mom said shaking my shoulder. Iââ¬â¢d fallen asleep three hours into the drive. We ordered from the nearest fast food place, Mcdondalds, filling all our hungry appetites. After about ten hours I became so bored I started to play with the lose thread on my shirt. I could tell Ricky wasnââ¬â¢t having any more fun then I was considering he was opening and closing the screen of his Nintendo DS over and over and over again. The traffic became agony, thereââ¬â¢s no doubt that you could put your car in park for five minutes and no would notice. Finally after hours of traffic we arrived at the house. Dad had just walked out the front door waving and smiling. ââ¬Å"Dad! â⬠I exclaimed while giving him a giant bear hug. ââ¬Å"Hi hunny, Iââ¬â¢m so glad youââ¬â¢re here. Dad said smiling. ââ¬Å"Nice place you got hereâ⬠Joe said examining it with his eyes. Weââ¬â¢ve never been to dadââ¬â¢s place before, heââ¬â¢d always come to Texas to visit on special occasions and my birthdayââ¬â¢s. ââ¬Å"Now you be good, call whenever you have the time and no late night walks, New York is very different then back home. â⬠Mom said. She kept going on until she had run out of things to say. ââ¬Å"Okay, Okay mom. See you at thanksgiving, love you. â⬠I said giving her a hug. I realized after saying that, that made her take-in how long itââ¬â¢d be until weââ¬â¢d see each other again. After saying goodbye to everyone I knew Iââ¬â¢d miss each and everyone back home in Texas terribly but I had a feeling this was a change for the better. What we had left of the day, dad decided itââ¬â¢d be a good idea to show me around the neighbourhood. ââ¬Å"Your hair is so straight and black nowâ⬠dad said. ââ¬Å"Yeah, I coloured it a few months ago. I thought it was time for some change, like moving here. â⬠I said smiling. For the next month dad and I went fishing, rollerblading, shopping, and all the other things we used to do when mom and he were together. I even met a new friend, Paige. Sheââ¬â¢s the neighbourââ¬â¢s daughter; she told me weââ¬â¢d be attending the same school together up the street when school re-opens in two weeks. The next day we arranged to go shopping. ââ¬Å"Hey dad, would it be okay if I go shopping with Paige today? â⬠I said. ââ¬Å"Sure hunny, I have to run a few errands and do some grocery shopping anyway, so Iââ¬â¢ll drop you two off at the mall. â⬠Dad said, smiling as always. Paige is so nice and out-going to be around. My friends in Texas were more down-to-earth. We would still go places and what not, but Paigeââ¬â¢s personality screams fun. ââ¬Å"We need to spice up your wardrobe, all of your out-fits are too toned down for NYC. â⬠Paige said, trying on a vintage pair of black boots. After a couple of hours of shopping, we grabbed something to eat and went home. Home I kept thinking. I like it here, being with my dad made me so much happier. Walking down the busy streets of New York with the sound of cars honking, people shouting for taxis, bargainers trying to sell you their no more than $5 junk, was now what I got to call home. Oddly I loved it. When I got home I took my shopping bags to my room and headed downstairs to watch T. V while waiting on my dad to come home and make dinner. As I reached for the television remote the phone rang. ââ¬Å"Hello, may I speak to Mr. Collins? â⬠ââ¬Å"Heââ¬â¢s not home at the moment; would you like me to take a message? â⬠ââ¬Å"Sure, is this Ms. Collins? â⬠ââ¬Å"Yes it is. â⬠I said, realizing soon after this person was probably referring to Ms. Collins as if I was my dadââ¬â¢s wife. A moment before I was about to correct myself, the person started speaking again. Oh, hi Ms. Collins, this is Tomââ¬â¢s doctor, Dr. Lee. Unfortunately I have to break the bad news to you; Tomââ¬â¢s cancer results have come in positive. He has cancer in his right lung and itââ¬â¢s too late to attempt to cure it. Iââ¬â¢m extremely sorry to tell you this way; Tomââ¬â¢s appointment was re-scheduled in two weeks from now when school re-opens, he cancelled the appointment scheduled for today knowing heââ¬â¢d want to spend as much time with your daughter arriving from Texas before school started. When I got the results, knowing Tom for so long, I wanted him to know as soon as possible. â⬠I didnââ¬â¢t know what to do, I held the phone to my ear ready to reply but my mind went blank. Eventually I replied and hung up the phone. Did I really just hear that? No, it couldnââ¬â¢t be. My dad couldnââ¬â¢t have cancer, he just couldnââ¬â¢t. Who am I kidding!? His doctor called for god sakes, I just didnââ¬â¢t want to believe it. Moments later my dad walked in the front door. ââ¬Å"Hi hunny. â⬠He said smiling. A Story About Courage. (2017, Feb 23).

Critical thinking Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Critical thinking - Assignment Example This might be one of the reasons the company is not growing as Henry seems to be micromanaging which is in the process stifling the organization he is trying to build. The very management style that is employed by Henry, the very management style that was critical in taking the company off the ground which is evidently based on a zealous focus on tactical execution is evidently derailing the growth of the company down the line. In this case, Henry is lost in the heat of battle, and has evidently failed to adapt their management style to the rapidly evolving needs of their growing organizations. A quick look at the organization structure and going by Henryââ¬â¢s responses, one would easily reveal the problem instantly. Providing his personal review of invoices before they were sent to customers is part of the problem which like he says cuts into a lot of time. Compounding this problem is the fact that the office is open which does not give him a place where to concentrate on the type of

Leadership and Communication Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Leadership and Communication - Essay Example Leadership and Communication This belief gets my approval for one reason. Most leaders of today communicate with their employees the way this generation communicates to each other. This is reflected in every organization allowing subordinates to express their ideas whether it is acceptable or not. On the other hand, traditional leaders communicate with their subordinates maintaining the ââ¬Å"I am in chargeâ⬠status. As a result, openness is not acceptable. Employees who are vocal with their ideas are considered not respectful of the leader. Leaders should be flexible with any generation they lead so that they will fit with the requirement of the changes. Leadership and communication in my generation is characterized by giving too much respect and obedience to leaders to the expense of sacrificing personal time. As a result, long hours of works are given without compensation. For instance, even if the required number of hours in a day for an employee is eight, employees can stay in the office beyond the ti me if ask by the leader to finish or rush work. This is so because leaders have the thinking that you have to ââ¬Å"pay your duesâ⬠to the company giving extra hours. Leadership does not consider balancing work and life which is evident in not giving vacation to employees who had work hard for the previous years. Leadership style is serving more the company and the leaders. After answering the question, I started writing the introduction based on the body or the answers of the questions.

Writing helps jog creativity (needs better wording..) Essay
Writing helps jog creativity (needs better wording..) - Essay Example No doubt, free writing is a natural way of writing that accelerates learning and enhances creativity. Writing is a process that explores ideas, beliefs, knowledge of known, and leads to the unknown. Free thinking and writing keeps the ideas and thoughts flowing. Murray finds free writing as a natural way of writing. He acknowledges the fact that writers are mostly clueless, they donââ¬â¢t know what their direction is. It is because they use language as a tool to explore what is beyond their knowledge (77).Free writing let the writer express every little detail on the paper rather than missing it in the ââ¬Å"only thinkingâ⬠or planning process. I personally feel that ideas are like soap bubbles that form and burst quickly, one after the other. I can identify with Abelardo Delgado who says, ââ¬Å"I literally give birth to the ideas which wiggle in me wanting to come outâ⬠(qtd. in Tomlinson). It is critical to save them as they appear, and nothing can save them as beautifully as free writing. James Baker refers ideas and details as ââ¬Å"free-floating metal shavingsâ⬠looking for magnet (qtd. in Tomlinson). The magnet here are words that attract and absorb every little detail of our ideas. Free writing gives clarity and meaning to the whole thought process in general and writing in particular. Murray observes his students exploring and discovering the meaning through their writing process (77). While writing freely, we naturally express ourselves more. Gradually, we come to identify the meaning behind our expressions. It is more like a process of self exploration which introduce us to our writer self. Elie Wiesel says, ââ¬Å"I write in order to understand as much to be understoodâ⬠(qtd. in Murray 77).Murray supports my idea of writing as a discovery of meaning which unfolds itself as it proceeds. However, I never felt like professor of philosophy who felt embarrassed or dumb because he has to keep writing to find out what is his objective
